EMDR Intensives
Same benefits of EMDR only faster!
One intensive is equivalent to months of weekly therapy
Extended EMDR Sessions or Intensives offers you the opportunity to condense your therapeutic experience and progress in a shorter time period. While therapy is traditionally offered weekly for one-hour session (the only type allowed for reimbursed by insurance), EMDR intensives are highly concentrated sessions, occurring for extended 90 minute sessions or longer 3-6 hour EMDR Intensives (examples: one 3 hour evening intensive followed by a 6 hour Sunday intensive in same week; perhaps two 90 minute sessions followed by one 6 hour Intensive spread out; 24 hours over 2 weeks broken up in multiple 6 hour sessions over several days).
Intensive saves you money in the long run
The exact design will be tailored to your needs and depend on when your goals are met. This structure allows you to focus solely on your healing and can provide much more rapid improvement of symptoms. Intensives can be used for anxiety diagnoses, PTSD and trauma recovery, or acute trauma/recent event using the R-tep protocol (Recent Event Protocol).
Online intensives can be a wonderful way to maximize the comforts of home along with ample opportunity for support from pets and all your familiar comfort items. In-person sessions can be requested and are conducted at a private cozy professional space in the Cleveland area with ample opportunity for relaxation and self-care. This time and space will be all about you!
Full assessment must be completed to be sure intensives are an appropriate fit for your needs. If you are accepted for intensives, we will co-create a blue print for your experience that will include a detail target list, scheduled breaks, and clear structure to assist us both with staying focused to maximize our time together.
Extended sessions and intensives are not covered by insurance and are not eligible for OON reimbursement. There will be no superbill provided and clients will not be able to submit for any type of coverage. A 50% deposit is required up front for all intensives with the remaining due 2 weeks prior to first session. If the balance is not paid by the due date, the Intensive Therapy session will be canceled, and the deposit will not be refunded.
If you are traveling to your intensive from outside the state of Ohio, all travel expenses are your responsibility and are not included. As required by the state of Ohio CSWMFT licensing board, I can only treat people who are physically located in Ohio at the time of treatment. For out of state clients, I would not be able to continue seeing you as an ongoing client after our intensive. If you feel you would benefit from ongoing therapy post intensive, you would need to find someone in your state. I can provide online intensives and ongoing therapy to any client in Ohio or Minnesota (where I have compact privileges).
Intensives are unique to you
EMDR intensives can be powerful, but the experience is unique to each client. Sometimes, progress occurs rapidly with deep insights and healing experienced immediately; other times, it may develop more gradually. Both experiences are perfectly acceptable and there is no right or wrong way to proceed. As we work together, we may uncover unexpected themes that require attending and have collaborative conversations to focus our time effectively. While I cannot guarantee specific outcomes, I have confidence in my approach, having witnessed many clients leave with significant shifts in their mood and presenting symptoms.
The process
This first step is to fill out the interest form so we can schedule a brief 15 minute call to make sure EMDR and EMDR intensives are an appropriate match for your therapeutic goals.
If during the call we decided intensives are a good match, we will schedule a full, one hour assessment that will include co-creating a EMDR Intensive Blueprint for our work together. This will help us identify overarching theme, specific target cognitions, and memories/events to guide your process. We will also estimate the total number of sessions, length of each session, and begin creating a draft schedule based on our schedules.
Shortly after our first session, I will send out a confirmation of the schedule (especially if choosing in-person), the final therapy agreement for signature, and deposit is due.
Your EMDR Intensive begins.
Upon completion of your intensive we will discuss your discharge plan. Depending on if you were referred by another therapist just to do the EMDR intensive with me, you feel ready to simply return to life as before, or you wish to connect with another therapist for after care we will make sure your goals feel met and you feel supported. I sometimes have availability to see an intensive client for after care but if not, I will do my best to provide referrals to a therapist based on your remaining therapeutic goals.

Jody Pittner, LPCC-S, LPAT, ATR-BC is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Consultant in Training with almost 10 years of EMDR experience. She helps clients heal from all different types of trauma and to learn how to support their nervous systems through a variety of techniques including art therapy, parts work (IFS Level One Trained), mindfulness, and somatic practices.
She offers EMDR Intensives to existing and new clients who may be looking for highly tailored, condensed trauma recovery OR who may be working with another therapist on a weekly or biweekly basis but who is not trained in EMDR. I am happy to collaborate with your therapist in designing an intensive package that works for you and your goals and am happy for you to continue your work together afterwards.
Some new clients who are a good match for intensives may also want to continue in therapy after their intensive experience. Based on my availability, I may be able to schedule you for ongoing support. If not, I will be happy to provide good referrals to another therapist for post intensive follow-up care.
I look forward to setting up a time to discuss your needs!
