You are not alone

Parents, how would you answer these questions?
Is your teen easily worn out by the demands of school and social life?
Does your teen struggle with overwhelming emotions?
Do you worry they are too hard on themselves or may be suffering from perfectionism?
Would you or others describe them as quiet, sensitive, or having difficulty connecting to peers?
Does fear keep them from taking healthy risks in life and relationships?
Challenges for Introverts and HSP Teens can play out in a number of ways.

With introverts accounting for approximately 50% of the population and another estimated 20% of the population having the trait of Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), teens with these intrinsic (very normal) qualities can sometimes grow up feeling:
Misunderstood by friends and family
That their need for quiet and solitude is not valued
Like they are simply not enough
That there is something wrong with them
That they need to get over being shy
They are too sensitive, or
That they are simply a freak.
So how do young introverts, deep thinkers, sensitive, observant, and quietly focused teens develop a healthy sense of self?
With a little help! From my quiet, calm office to the way I develop my teen groups, I take into consideration the needs of introverts and HSPs. I assist teens and their parents in learning how to understand and appreciate who they are and how they interact with their environment. Together, we will work toward developing ways to:
Understand and embrace emotional sensitivity
Calm and nourish the body and mind to better manage energy and mood
Develop intuition and non-linear forms of problem-solving
Advocate for their needs at school and home, and
Leverage their strengths in school and future career paths.
Even my Create & Cope Art Therapy Groups offer a gentle way for anxious, shy, or quiet teens to stretch into the kind of connection introverts actually crave most – deep, thoughtful, creative, and compassionate sharing. Whether through individual, group, or some combination, your teen will gain new perspectives, self-confidence, and skills to cope with demands of adolescence. So will you.
